Magazine Snippets

Postby mellowyellowa610 » Sun Feb 08, 2015 3:32 pm

Following on from Big MVS's request, I will start with this interesting article which probably won't have been seen by most. I think sometimes we talk the excellence of these cars down ourselves which can ultimately affect us all by lowering (or keeping values low) and thus meaning that people are less willing to spend good money keeping them on the road and in tip top shape. The magazines usually only have good things to say about the cars and in my opinion, I think they knew what they were talking about. I will try and add a few pieces which are less well known for us enthusiastic Alpinists to look over.

Ok as you are all looking at this... I thought I would add my experience of looking at magazines and wishing that i had these things... ( no noting like that.. I keep my rubber collection in a diffrent place LOL )
Anyway over 20 years ago, I was sat in my dentists waiting room, and seen a copy of Auto World sat on the table, with other "tastefull" stuff!!! ( Stop it!! I can hear what you're thinking!!)

Anyway I picked it up and on the cover was a most beautiful car!! I thought " Wow I wish I could have that!!!

I continued reading, and became hooked..... So hooked I offered the receptionist, to buy the magazine.... which she gave me... bless her!!

I kept this magazine for many years often thinking about this car, and that one day I would get one...
A few years later I purchased my GTA, as I could not find an A610, and thinking that they are so rare, I would make do with second best...and got the GTA Turbo... ( and I am not disrespecting the GTA.. they are a wonderful car, and I still have it!! )

Anyway "Sods Law" just as I was nearly finishing the restore of the GTA, I hear of an A610 in my price range is up for sale...
I jumped at it!! and now have two cars...
Many months later, as I was looking up the history of the A610, I had problems with the cars registration, as it had been in Jersey and Ireland ( Where I got it ) so the original Reg was lost?? I took the chassis number to the renault dealer and got them to do a search... Its original reg was "K424 NTP"... ??? That seemed to ring a bell with me, but I could not put my finger on it.
Days later I was putting my paperwork back in it's folders, and there was the magazine... with the registration on it... I had fullfilled my wish and I now have the car in the magazine....
So next time you are looking and wishing..... It may come true!!!

There you go thats my little story of how I became an Alpine owner..

Didn't realise that one was your car. Always wondered where it had gone.

Thank you .... This car fails to amaze me!! The more I dig, the more seems to appear... it sure has had an eventful life...

I've got the program on VHS somewhere so could probably get a better recording if you want me to (was just done on an old phone many years ago). You can confidently say your car has never seen a track :shhh :shhh :shhh
