Another potential cause of problems is this broken wire that should go to the left hand terminal of the central connector on the ignition module. Any ideas what this does and what type of problem the break would create? Is it a timing signal for spark from the ecu? Any advice for the best way to fix this back to connector as the break is right at the plug? Should there be a plug in the left hand connector of the ignition module?

This is as far as I got today (slow progress), but it was nice of Renault to install a built in mug holder...... way ahead of it's day this car :-)

Panic ye not .
I don't know what it was connected to but it wasn't to that plug as that terminal is redundant .Try and see where the other end of the wire goes for more advice .
The other 3 pin socket is not used so basically what you have is correct :up

Ah, thanks Lee. Best I go and take another gander and see where that wire really came from then! Cheers

I suppose I will, if I really have too! Too scared of what will be there.

Glad you said that because thought I was going nuts. Went out to take another look and the other broken half of the wire definitely looks like it's visible in the left hand side of that central connector. Maybe there are different wiring schemes for pre and post 1989? Or is it messing by an alarm installer? There are remnants of a Clifford alarm with this car but it doesn't appear to be active.

Looking really closely, the other end of that broken wire is poking out of the left hand terminal of the centre connector. You can just see the copper, surrounded by brown insulation. The wire is insulated with brown and then another black sleeve.

Also found this connector nearby which goes to a black casing that appears to contain a few solder joints and maybe a resistor?

Picture from the other side of black casing. Is this correct? Some sort of tune resistor for the ECU?

Also this relay was floating about under that area, there is biro on it that reads "TO AMP RELAY". Is this standard or part of alarm? What does amp relay mean? I assume there is a relay that powers the ingition amplifier somewhere. Is this near the ECU?

I really need some literature for this car i.e. manuals and wiring diagrams! I've seen mention of a downloadable one but can't find it for love nor money :-(

Thanks for this diagram (my photo is upside down relative to this). Any ideas why I might have another wire connected to connector 2A? :wtf :? I will check the other end of the plug and see if it actually leads somewhere.
