Clio Cup 172 '03

Postby turbell » Tue Apr 28, 2015 12:23 pm

Imminent sale due new purchase of Italian thing.....
Going for test on Friday so will have full ticket.
Ours since 6mnths old. One previous owner.
65ish K
Plenty of bills and serviced by me.
Never bent, goes like the clappers strong right from the get go, point to point it's the quickest car I have had.
Ideal track car.
BAD POINTS.........
It has been used by my wife as a shopping trolley, wheels are badly kerbed, crack in rear bumper, thumb sized dent in roof, few parking dents in sides.
Never had a cambelt/waterpump/dephaser etc ......this could be a bad point or a good point depending on where you have had it done as it can be easily made a right royal mess of.....so as a good point in some ways as no norberts have had their spanners near the expensive, easily done wrong bits. Starting to sound a little cammy due to dephaser, not noisy but not as quiet as my Laggy.
For what it's probably worth I'd keep it and smarten it up, but I have too much on and not enough room so it will probably have to go .
It's only on here at the moment, need to see what the test highlights and how much I have to spend/re shod it/ do wheels ...if and maybes......
PM me if anyone is interested, I will add a price, photos and contact no. when I know where I am with it......will be sorned after sat due to changeover to ultra reliable Alfa.... :hang

Indeed ... :up
Spent a couple of minutes polishing the really important bits ...to me anyway ....and swapping out the front suspenders for something a little less harsh ..

Ha Ha, Best car to come out of Dieppe that!
If I'd had room it wouldn't of gone, same goes with 11T, but that's life as the French say.
If anyone wants a sure fire investment, then a grand or two in one of these is safe money, hope you enjoy it, we did. :up

Always the same when you get a new motor.Old ones get little or no attention but a new face always grabs your attention ..... :D

what coilovers have you fitted then Lee? This car is supposed to be harsh, don't soften it up too much at the front.
never thought I would want a list but now find myself needing one just to remind me: Clio V6 230, 5 gt turbo, 5 Gordini turbo, Megane RS 300 Trophy.

Standard shocks but with Eibach black springs??.One of the cup springs was snapped ,£100 wtf, and it was a very harsh ride anyway .Car is for Dawn( birthday pressie :silent ) daily ,country lanes to Nottingham speedbumps .
I've only swapped out the fronts tho and yet to get it off the stands and check heights .I think the Eibachs are -30mm on a std 172 and I think the cup is about that also ??

Back discs/pads have only done about 8k, her Dads place but them on when she had it tested there a couple of years back, I shook my head,........every time it goes for the test I get the same old crap ' yer back pads need changin' .......they only come with a bout 10mm on them and do next to nowt anyway, course they want to put discs on as well to save them giving them a rub down and then you need bearings.........times I've lost it at MOT stations......miserable git I am.
Pay close attention to the rear pressure limiter, it doesn't tie into the axle like a normal 172, there is a DOT print out in the history in case Mr tester gets shirty.......just look at where the spring locates as it bends and then it kicks in too soon. Give it a bend.
It would be worth popping out the rear pistons as well, as they suffer the same GTA stickiness with so little pressure they tend not to work much,
Pattern exhaust hangers are a wasteof money ....12mths .....ballaxed, think I plated rear box up last year and put one on so that has gone in a year......genuine last 3 yrs +
Got a nice picture of it going on the loader from here....sad I know :crazy
