heated rear screen tabs

Postby jagcat12 » Sat Oct 24, 2015 7:36 am

Hi
Re my A610
The tabs for the heated rear screen have been broken off sometimes in the past and disappeared.
and I have searched the forum for any solutions .I wont be soldering as not to clever with that.
but the biggest problem is getting hold of new tabs, the only ones I could find are from frost fighters in the USA.
Is there any local supplier or would a scrap Renault have the same tabs I could use?Would Renault have them?

Thanks Dave g

This seems a common fault... yes they can be re-solderd, but its risky, as you could shatter the glass attempting it.
I know Mr Dell as a few ex-stock brand new ones at "The Shed", take a peek at this...

This maybe a better route to go... I am going to get one, once I get me A610 back from the workshop. These rear hatches are getting few and far between, so maybe worth grabbing one at the sale price..

Hope this helps..

I made some copper tabs that I trapped under the strut fixings and used some heated screen repair paint to join everything up, then female spades on the wires pushed onto the new tabs......................it still doesn't work mind !.......but I haven't got round to looking into whether it's my bodge....sorry inexpensive solution, that is pants or a another issue.
It's on the list.....

Hi again

The tabs have disappeared so trying to source new ones .I did think of trying the copper under the struts and that might be the way I will go.Local garage suggest go to a scrap yard and try and pull off from another car.
Will keep you posted . have checked out previous posts but thanks anyway

Conductive expoxy also works but quite expensive
