Brooklands a Classic breakfast club anyone ? TOMORROW

Postby Dave Williams » Sat Oct 24, 2015 5:25 pm

Hi...planning to go along to this tomorrow morning at Brooklands in the GTA..have been a couple of times before. The GTA is now a 30yr old car (based on first production) so meets the brooklands definition of classic.
Though it has just started peeing with the rain..the forecast tomorrow morn is/was supposed to be ok (cloud with a sun poking out). Given the clocks go back..not super early either...
Any takers ?
Might even go for a blast up the test hill...

There was a variety of nicely turned out classics...and it's less of a bun fight than the goodwood breakfasts...I'm only 15 mins away...so I tend to pop along if the weather is good. My family will tolerate a car show if there is a cooked breakfast in it for them!!

Thanks Martin..talking of flying things....

this...is something that got airborne at the test hill on a different event - makes me wince and laugh a bit....

what was he thinking...I like his style

When I was looking for that link I just spotted this chap in the Bentley Turbo R....crikey...Paul Fitzpatrick if I'm not mistaken..(a former owner of my GTA Turbo..I'd seen him mention his ridiculous (in a good way) stripped out Bentley ..this is it )...quite an impressive burn out uphill in a Bentley...

I think he would have been pleased to see F450 back on the road.

That hill is a bit tricky at the start as the concrete sags a bit on the left...and some of the more powerful rear wheel drive cars snake off to the right bank...there is a video on you tube of yellow countach that went up the bank..ouch.

We should get a <insert collective noun> of Alpines together and go up the test hill. Requires little skill - just the ability to brake at the top....

There is also Shere Hill Climb near me...that is another event that is not too serious...maybe for next September ? They block off a road - put some hay bails down and create some chicances...no helmets it seems...you get some good machinery...some 110s etc, One for the calendar I think ?

Shere Hill Climb is a great event, and could turn into a mini Goodwood festival.
Raises lots for charity too.

However, the organisers are VERY picky about the cars they allow up the hill.
You will notice that big Porky 911s are a little boring and there wern't any this year.
They prefer the exotic and rarer cars to show off.

Rumor has it that 2016 could be a 2 day event.
1 demo/fun day (as this year) and day 2 could be "competitive".
I cant say if I can substantiate this rumor yet :)
1986 : '86 GTA v6 BW-EFR turbo, with Adaptronic ECU

2007 : Gurston Down & RAOC Champion
2008 : Rushmoor & Eelmoor & ACSMC Hillclimb class Champion
2009 : Longcross & Eelmoor
2010 : Crystal Palace & Eelmoor
2016 : Rushmoor & 5th O/A
