A310 Re-spray

Postby AreTee » Sun Oct 18, 2015 5:19 pm

Dismantling is underway for the impending re-spray. I still have to remove the front bumper, engine cover and front quaterlights.

Same colour Rob?

When Andy did mine he managed to do it perfectly without removing the engine cover. I was hoping he'd be able to do that to avoid any possible risk of damage to the hatch.

The paint looked pretty good when I saw it last!

I always thought the paint was pretty good on your car.
The metal strips that the front bumper bolts go through inside, tend to rust badly. If you get the chance then they could easily be replaced in Stainless. If you don't get the chance then use the best anti-rust stuff you can on them.

Red 310 does need paint as the original red (turned orange) on the rear two thirds isn't matched by the repaired/re-sprayed darker red on front third :shhh

Yes I am sticking with the same colour, which is the original.

The paint doesn't look bad from a distance bit there are a few cracks around the headlight apertures, various splits in the paint, areas of previous damage with poor repairs and the large paint shrinkage marks in one of the rear wings, so as the wife (financial controller) has said yes it is all systems go.

I have enlisted my neighbour to help getting the rear hatch off due to its weight and I am starting on the front bumper this weekend so we will see how it goes once I can find all of the fixings that hold it on. The rear bumper came off relatively easily apart from a few snapped bolts and one which I had to grind off.

Every time AreTee (RT get it) puts a picture of his car on here, the one he bought from you, You ask the same thing if the number plate isn't shown, or if it is then you say that it's your old one.
Really mate, I know you've a bit of a blind spot over A310s but you have genuinely asked about this car at least half a dozen times.

Tony,

Yes it is the one I bought from you back in 2006.

Front bumper is now off. There are some very rusty / non existent reinforcements where the bumper fastens to the car. The engine cover is also off so only need to get quarterlights out then it is ready to go to the paint shop.

It's looking good Rob. I gues it has some way to go yet, with the preparation, before the primer goes on.
When do you think it will be finished? Look forward to seeing it sometime next year.

Here it is as of today. Two fibreglass repairs were required, one on the nose one where a previous owner crashed into a lamp post, and one to redo a previous poor repair on the rear panel.
