It beggars belief...

Postby clee » Mon Oct 26, 2015 1:39 pm

...that someone would repair this area in this manner :wtf Downright dangerous ....and I quote from the recent Ebay listing.

"Its had work including the all important cross member under the petrol tank"

Both sides ,about an inch from the upper arm bolt had a sheet of steel glued in place to cover the rot ! I peeled it away with my hands .The rest of the crossmember 'repairs' has been done with epoxy filler :wtf

Rest assured it is now all being chopped out and done properly but just shows you what can lie beneath .Please always get someone who knows what they are doing to look over any potential purchase despite any blurb .

He mentions Paul and he wouldn't do a repair like that (although the seller could have done it himself or got someone else to bodge it like that).

That is what my "fully restored" MGA looked like when I got it....all over the body and frame. Shame on them. Took years to reconcile.

My first car was a Chevette.
The owner before me had fixed the sills by filling the holes with newspaper and expanding foam, then a skim of filler and a gallon of black wax paint on top of that.
Only found out when I went to jack it up and the jacking point collapsed, taking half the floor with it............

Major rot-box this one but now all repaired .
We had to do the wheel arch pockets ,top turret rhs where the pocket attached, turret bases, jacking points, front outriggers and then the major rot in the front crossmember .This extended to the toparm mount bolts + front top outriggers ......But ...all done for less than half the price of a paint job so it's up to you what you feel is more worthwhile :thinking :MoreSarc
I've got a set of refurbed front gear to go back on + rebuilt servo and new fixings front and rear .

Yes, Lee does look like he's getting the hang of this repairing GTAs lark (together with his Weld Master)!

Good job by Lee at RATS and his welder beast, thank you both. Looks like it was only a few curb jumps from folding in two at the front end! Got the car back this weekend and already putting smiles on faces and should do for years to come. Cheers from a new fan, I hope to meet a few from you from the forum next summer when the weather improves.
