Hi all i am new to the forum just thought id introduce myself. i have just taken ownership of a 1986 501 V6 Turbo been in a dark garage for the last 12 years it looks like hell and i have not even started it yet .

Welcome...I have a GTA V6 being restored at RATS in Derby...you can find the thread, mine has been off the road since 1997. Most mechanical bits are easily obtained except engine bits which are getting rarer, but there are a few gold dust items.
Lights etc more problematic.
If we know where you are, we can help with recommendations about where to get help.

Aha...so you are local (ish) to me ...I'm just south of Cambridge, there are a few cars around here, so even though the Northerners will say they are friendlier, you should be able to get local help if you need it.
There was a GTA in Harlow and I have seen a silver Turbo a few times around here too.
Specialists...London (east or south-east) or Heanor near Derby (where my car is at present). There are monthly(ish) Club meet ups South of London and in the Docklands/Ace cafe depending on the season, you'll be welcome to come along and meet us even if you haven't joined.

Yes ren 25 turbo engine is the mainly the same, but they are rarer than the GTA these days. We seem to be getting to a point where some parts are hard to get...blocks especially as corrosion an be a problem where the liners meet it. Repairs are possible but not cheap.
There are a few other difficult or expensive items, water pumps, drive shafts, Valve springs aren't available for the turbo either (new anyway).
Overall though it's not a bad situation, you just need to tap into the network to find what you need.
