Looks tidy?

Values look like they may have got off the floor, major issues are out in the open and fixable for reasonable money, so if your willing to invest a bit of time and budget for a possible blast, powder coat, change a few possible weak points while you're at it job, whether it be DIY or at a specialist, cars like this are looking good value to me.

A good going over, armed with the correct knowledge and if the paint looks as good as it does in the photos ( doesn't have to be perfect, just generally good ) and with a bit of haggling, I can't think of money better invested.
A great looking, involving driving, comfortable, affordable car brought up to a stable, major issues fixed stage for 8-10k, depending on your skill level, that at the very least won't lose money.
And when the big money is spent and the steel is treated and waxed and/or replaced, no bubbling arches ( yes I know GRP blisters aside ! ) in three years, or sill seams opening up and yellow chalk all over at mot time.
Or you could buy a Escort. Just.
And they're not annoying faults, its character.

But watch out for all those dreamers out there... I have had quite a few asking and looking at my black GTA Turbo..
Lucky I am in no rush to sell... It can hibernate in its garage for now. It's not as if its going to loose value! Just a shame as someone could be loving it over the winter... But seriously, if you are selling, watch out for these dreamers.

It's not just 'dreamers' there are also a lot of people 'on the make'. It's clear to everyone that V6 Alpines (A310s, GTAs and A610s) have been undervalued for a long time. The A310 seems to have finally reached some where near it's real value and It's also clear that prices are picking up for the GTA and A610, even if they're still undervalued. So a few people are just trying to make money from them in a changing market.
I had that with the Clio V6 last year. Guys wanted to offer 5k using year old+ sales as a comparison. I ended up getting 8k and would have got 10 if I'd had the 1k cash to do the cam belt. 6 months later the car was advertised for 12k and still in need of a belt replacement.

Vince - Shame you have been messed about. Get it on Car and classic or flea bay as it's getting the most interest although I guess you want to try and sell to an enthusiast through the forum.

It seems to be in the same condition as it was when it for sale on here, cracked headlight cover and all.
I've never seen the car or have inside knowledge of its condition or structural condition ( others might and possibly pm you, as a club member and give you the 'nod' ) , the reason I pointed it out, is it just looks straight and unmolested, pictures usually flatter a car and I've no doubt, it will have paintwork issues, but as a tidy looking car it's up there.
As to buying one without major issues............well that depends how deep you look, and what do you define as major?
If you want to but a GTA and change the oil and filters and nothing else, then there will be a handful of prized possessions in the country that fall into that category.
The rest may need work, but if sensibly prioritised and other work done while you're at it, that would probably need doing in time anyway, you get the satisfaction the car is 'right', true it might mean investment, but the larger part of the investment is safe money and the bills even for 'major' work are modest, when you consider the average Joe who has bought himself an Audi on chucky, then gets a £350 bill for a 'major' service ( neighbour paid this and it was all filters and oil, nowt else, mates X3 was £650 and it came back with the coolant low and the cap hadn't been off in years ).....................Oh dear didn't see that one coming...................beans on toast for the rest of the month!
I'd pay Clee day rate to look it over properly, but even speaking to him will give you worse case scenario, again as a full member I'm sure anyone local to you will help you out, the cars are coming up to thirty years old and were just a production car with a limited life span, but as I've said before were artisan built so can be artisan repaired!...................look at modern cars with bonded alloy turrets...........high strength steel chassis legs ( that cannot be welded ) the restorers of the future will have some real headaches.

Choices are few and far between to be honest as "good un's" are being retained by enthusiasts and "investors".

If you are lucky one may come to the market but otherwise I would contemplate a project and send it to Clee (RATS) for restoration. At least you know the job has been done right and will last for years to come.

In fact (ahem time for a plug) if anyone is interested I have a late GTA Turbo coming into BIG_MVS HQ shortly needing re-commissioning/restoration which will be available.

Your other option is Vince is selling his restored GTA Turbo soon and is already at RATS.

Thanks for the quick feedback gents. I'm able to work on anything myself (have lift access and and various other car distractions) so not just looking for filters and plugs approach, but also not looking to do a year's work before enjoying it.

Already been in touch with Vince re his and will be taking a trip to RATS very soon. Might go take a look at this one anyway as its only 10 miles away from me.

Will post any questions that I'll have once I take a look.

I bought a tidy a610 in 2004 and sold it in 2013...despite living in a dry garage and regular use the sills deteriorated and it's now had the rats treatment by its current owner, Lee can advise you on the budget you need for that. That car was a mid sufferer, there are some significantly worse,
A610s have a lot more metal in them, its poor quality, not finished properly from new and all are 20+ years old.
I bought a rough GTA and that is also at Rats, it looked ok ish underneath and little signs of major issues, after some digging the sills needed some tidying up but the horror was the front cross memeber, that needed serious rebuilding. GTAs are easier to inspect and have less hidden issues, but the cross memeber at the front is hidden and critical,
This wasn't visible even after some initial dismantling, but was very dangerous when fully exposed.
Its the hidden danger in these cars as an MOT is no help, they won't see the structure.
All the key parts of the car hang on this box; steering rack, brakes and front suspension.
The rear of my car was relatively ok but rear wheel arch turrets and wheel arch pockets are also a weakness.
My car will have cost more than its value when finished, but I have the reassurance of a car with a sound structure that will be safe (and pass mots).
I agree with the advice in this thread, get the car inspected, it needs to be on a ramp and ideally you need to do some dismantling to get a thorough view.
The good news is that Rats are able to fix these faults, but do expect a significant (but reasonable in the circumstances) bill.
I'd either go for a really spotless car (but beware apparent paint perfection tells you little) with an inspection, or buy complete but rough car and get it fixed properly using the difference. Mid range cars (and there are lots in this category) risk hiding major faults and costing too much in reality.
