Bulbs (Instrument Panel)

Postby Dave Williams » Wed Apr 27, 2016 5:26 pm

Anyone know how the number and type of bulbs behind the dash...I have a couple out and before I take it apart I wanted to get the right bits. Will they all be the same spec bulb ? I did a search but only found the window switch bulbs.

Specifically:
label 5; trip computer
label 7; gauges (temp / pressure etc) - ???
label 3; behind the warning indicators - for ???
label 14; window switches - 12v 1W bulbs with tails (I have 2 of these)

Thanks

I just had a look through the parts book...very illuminating...
...and looked for the low wattage bulbs..so I guess these are the likely candidates...I'll updated the list of which type is used where (if/when I get around to it)...most did seem to be available on the Renault parts site....though I lifted the spec and added to the table so should be easy to source online....

Anyway here is the list...

Hi Dave,

Just searching for this exact topic. Did you ever get round to working out what replacements were available? Been using the GTA all this week again and I've always thought the main bulbs for the speedo / rev counter cluster were weak. Be nice to up the power slightly.

Also I've got a bulb popped on the warning light panel so need to replace that too.

Still got your ECU reader so need to bring that back to you at some point soon!!

Cheers

Darren

Hi Darren,

I can give you the wattages and types of bulbs you require for the instruments and computer, but I would not recommend upping the wattages as all the instrument bulbs are quite tightly housed in plastic holders and I suspect you could get some melting of the holders due to the extra heat which cannot be easily be dissipated. ........ this goes for the computer bulb as well.
I do not know the type of bulbs requires for the warning light panel as I have never had to check, but suspect they will be the same as the instrument ones.
For the instrument panel you will require 6 X 12 volt 1.2 watt capless bulbs .... Lucas Pt No. LLB288, and for the computer you will require 1 X 12 volt 2 watt MBC bulb .... Lucas Pt No. LLB286........ With this bulb, just check it has not got an elongated glass section as this will be too long and will bottom in its housing.
Below is a pic of the bulb types.
I hope this helps.
Regards
John

Darren,
I googled the part numbers and a German site called autodoc recognises them...all bar one which you can get from the description from the same site. I'm sure new bulbs will be brighter than the originals...or at lease I hope so as I cant read the fuel gauge when the headlights are on...
Some of them are rarities that don't seem to be easily available in the UK.
Here are what I matched through their site, but it might be better to wait until I've fitted them before ordering to be sure...they have multiple brands for all except the numbers ending 387 and 185 one which seem harder to source in the UK.

7703097182-t4w ba9s 12v 4w bulb- I went for Bosch 233 12V 4W T4W -
7703097184 - hella 8GA 007 997-011
7703097185 hella 8GA 008 901-241
7703097186-Lucas LLB288- as john has identified.

Good hunting...

I'll have a go when the bulbs arrive...speedo contacts need a clean too to get rid of the 180 mph runs it has a habit of doing...

Hi Darren...I did not replace my bulbs..I bought a new cluster for the atmo..but yet to fit it as I should have got an early one..need to see if Mr Dell can swap..

The turbo is ok..but there are a few blown...

I tend to only take the dash apart when absolutely necessary as the plastic is brittle...but could do with getting a new set of bulbs and replace all at once...as you can guarantee (law of sod) that others will go after you've replaced some..

Thanks all for updates on this topic...
It might inspire me to sort out those niggles... creaking dash.. missing screws...and bulbs...

I think most of the dash creaks are caused by missing screws, plus the sponge insulation parts degrade.

Yes I'm with you there on the dash as age hasn't helped with the tabs going brittle, however I think most have enough space around them to be reinforced. I've used the epoxy putty stuff - https://www.halfords.com/motoring/paint ... poxy-putty
- this sort of thing to reinforce one of them. Worked well and since it's a putty you can squash it into the shape you want. Sets in about 10 mins.

That's my next big challenge, sorting the other creaks and rattles!
