Considering upgrading the trusty Phillips unit, especiall as I would like a coupe of centre mounted gauges.
So, for you Audio Buff, what would you recomend.
Single height unit
Radio, CD player (single is ok), with Aux in, USB, Blue tooth maye too (for phone).
Just looking for a Good unit rather than Bang & Olsen.
And I like the display to be a clock when the unit is Off, LED display.

And just looked on the Alpine site............Farrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr tooooooooooooooooo complex.
What do I get for £100, where can I see one? Will it connect into my GTA easily?
And I suppose my speakers are needing replacing???

I have a rare as OE conversion kit for this somewhere....
Incl clock/tray/chassis etc. I'll try to dig out for you and take some photos.

Looking for some funds to sort my bonnet anyway, Pete's badgering during Macon finally persuaded me....

Almost anything from around £40 upwards will do what you want.

Suggest you go to Halfords and take a look at what's on offer and see if there is anything you find aesthetically pleasing.

http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stor ... reId=10001

Some of the sony and alpine units can be adapted to work with the original stalk controls.

If you don't want to fabricate a panel or get the OEM single din adaptor from Jon viola you might want to also consider a double din unit.

I think I will go for a Sony MEX-N5100BT from Halfords.
Thinking that Autoleads would have the connector for me, and after checking their catalogue,
PC2-15-4
My loom has one connector with a row of 7 pins for the speakers,
and a second connector for power which is a row of 3 pins.
Looking at the Autolead above, looks like they have a double block connector.

Is this the right lead?
Or do I buy it just for the ISO end and then attach spades and manually connect each wire to the cars loom?

At the worst, you end up having to do what I had to do. Get a plug that will connect with the GTA's harness and then re-map from GTA to ISO connectors. At least you only need to do that once.

I think there are a couple of diagrams (I did one but the +ve / -ve speaker connections may not be 100% correct) on this site and I think someone posted a better one. I had to reverse engineer my mappings but it all works...

Let us know how you get on there's plenty of double din units on eBay with all your requirements. I will have a look at the bits that were in the car when I got it, my radio connectors were butchered with choc block already.

If you feel like letting go of your original stereo let me know as I am in the opposite frame of mind trying to put an original in place of a pretty new aftermarket single unit! Your welcome to it before it goes on eBay.

Yes, my wiring is a little odd too, but in a French sort of way.
Thanks for the swap offer....but I'd like to keep it "just in case".

Those members who might be changing their radio at some point, it might be worth printing this pic out for future reference. ;)

Thanks John.
Out of interest, what is the "accessories" wire for?
My wiring is as per the Workshop manual, page C-48 and "Accessories" are noted on connections A1 as well as G1.

This is the 12v supply to the radio which apears when you switch to the first position on the ign switch (Accessories position)
My wiring is as per the Workshop manual, page C-48 and "Accessories" are noted on connections A1 as well as G1.

As yours is an early Alp, it might be different to the above diagram.
From your manual, The clock unit connector "G" has a permanent 12v for the actual clock ... G2 ........ and 12v for the radio from ign switch position 1... G1, (Accessories)
I hope this makes sense. :)
