Funny you should say that :idea: Thats what i was thinking initially-----with the running out of fuel--putting a canfull in the next day then nothing + the .5 smaller bore fuel pipes, i was hoping the guys on here would say somthing like that,maybe some sort of kill switch if the fuel pressure is up or somthing "desperate times" No switch that i know of unless GTA's have a hidden suprise somwhere?
I think somthing simalar happened to my grandads Metro a few yrs ago nothing and when the auto electrician came out presses a button and it was thanks £30 please, That would do me fine at the mo. Think it was the inertia switch or somthing?
Still really puzled with the running out of fuel bit?
Just to re-cap
Start her up----after a few mins running lumpy, :idea: scratch head--oops [b][b]she's running out of petrol.switch off.

Next day dad gets some petrol. turns her over--nothing---initially suspect a fuel prob---smell of fuel---plugs out---not really wet but you can smell fuel on them--+ fuel pump priming up, lossened a fuel pipe a touch -ignition on and plenty of fuel there :!:
Spark plug out--pressed up against some metal turned her over--Nothing--Same with the king lead--No spark:-(
Called Auto Electrician--he checked the TDC sensor and suspected that (Think he said it was/is pulsing one way---might b wrong on that my Auto elictrical knowledge is 2 on a scale of 10) TDC sensor on, Still nothing:-(
Auto electrician back---(His diagnostic equipment doesnt cover the GTA) suspected Renix unit (Coil pack) Ordered one from Renault, pluged it in---still nothing and totally lost:-((
It still bug's me the running out of fuel and then nothing-----just has though a overide swith or somthing has ----

Remember if you've refitted the TDC that the wiring is the reverse of what you'd expect. e.g. black to white; white to black.

Could easily be an ECU fault also.

yeah fitted tdc wires that way checked ecu conections etc :x

if your instinct is that it is fuel then it probably is... Check fuel pump/filter. May be partially blocked and once running more crap gets sucked in .
Can't see why it would start at all if the TDC sensor was iffy. How warm does the engine have to get before it gets lumpy ? I would have thought it would need to be very hot for there to be an effect on electircal connections. If it is a fuelling problem then would the diagnostic unit even pick it up?

we thought it was fuel but then we checked for a spark and there wasnt one just dropped it off at renault and they seem enthusiastic to make a start on the car and to see one oh well time will tell

Put it on a low loader (dont use the recovery trucks that hoist the 'front wheels' otherwise you may knacker the car's spine) cost you around £25 but it is worth it rather than taking the chance of braking without servo.

Just for future ref; the GTA seems fine when towed with the solid towing bar, no damage and plenty of clearence around the towing hook on the GTA, its just wait n see now, they have said they will hitch it up on there diagnostic equipment and leave it at that, Just hoping its not the ECU has ime waiting for David with the Adaptronic, ill keep you informed with there progress.
