GTA Heater Fan

Postby paulrob100 » Mon Aug 08, 2016 9:12 pm

Just noticed today. When the heater fan switch is `off` the fan runs at low speed. Turn the switch one click & the fan speeds up as you would expect. Now, turn it to what should be the fastest setting, & it slows down to `low`.

Scratching my head ! :thinking. Any ideas ?

The fan at the centre vents is permanently on for fuel vapour reasons as I remember....

Clean connectors on springy looking resistor thing near battery.
For high speed though, on turbo model, there is a relay located high up above fuse panel, almost behind speedo. You don't need to remove instrument panel to get to it though. Operate switch and you should hear it click. Look up above pedals.

Thanks Miles

Took the relay out, cleaned the connectors & sprayed with electrical contact cleaner :) Now working !

Lee ....... the non air conditioned Atmo and Turbo Alps do, as you say, share the same circuitry, but there are differences when it comes to the Atmo and Turbo versions.with air con.
However all versions have the Fan Motor third speed Relay No. 337. See pic below for position of Relay 337 for Non Air Con Alps ..... although the pic is for the Turbo, the relay position is the same as the Atmo.
Remember, of course, that the manual shows only LHD versions, so it is possible that relay 337 is at the other end of the relay rail nearest the steering wheel on RHD Alps. ;)

Thanks John, it sounds like I have just found a new thing to worry about when retrofitting ac to my Atmo...if it ever gets that far. I'll have to get the bits out and find out if my AC set up is Turbo or Atmo.
