Interior light

Postby Irish GTA » Tue Oct 04, 2016 9:21 am

How do you get access to the interior ceiling lamp on a GTA - without breaking it? As these plastic parts get old, they get more brittle too & prone to break unless care is taken, so reluctant to attack the cover with a screwdriver to lever it off for this reason. I am trying to check the bulb / clean the terminals.
Help would be much appreciated.

Been there and broken the clip!

I don't think there's any option but to gently move the clip to get the cover off. There are some screws are under there which release the whole unit. If I remember correctly, when I took all the trim off the roof to have it recovered, retaining screws for the black trim piece that holds the sun visors etc. are located underneath the light fitting. And even then, the bulb is underneath the pop-off plastic cover so you have to remove it even when you've got the unit off the car.

Yes just be as careful as you can, like jonc says if it's going to break it will.

You can repair the clips with super glue so all is not lost if it does let go.

look carefully at each end of the clear plastic lens, you should see a small slot where the tab is. Lever from here GENTLY.
then you can get to the bulbs.

The whole fitting is screwed into what is basically expanded polystyrene foam so also very easy to strip the mounting screws.

As everyone says just be very careful. It's all very brittle and fragile.
