UN1 synchro rings

Postby darrenbiggs » Thu Jan 05, 2017 7:47 pm

Hi All,

While the engine's out of the car at RATS, I'm taking the opportunity to get the gearbox refreshed. 2nd gear has always had a bit of a weak synchro, so Lee's dropped it off with the gearbox guys and they've reported back that 1st/2nd synchro is worn, plus 3rd/4th.

I've located a source for the 1st/2nd gear synchro rings - http://www.mespiecesauto.com/mot-cle-pr ... turbo-un1/

110 Euros for the pair, plus 10 shipping. I've also enquired with Simon Autos so waiting to hear back from them.

Anyway, two questions really, does anyone know a source for 3rd/4th rings (assuming Mespieces and Simon can't source them) plus does anyone else need 1st/2nd whilst I'm ordering?

I think Mr Faulks you were interested? Lee? Anyone else? Simon Taylor - did you get your gearbox sorted in the end with a swap?

Cheers

Darren

Nope. Lee might be able to get some. Clee?

3rd/4th have always been fine, never baulked or crunched at all, so I think they're just covering themselves which is fair enough. For 1st/2nd I'm glad it's visible and they've not identified anything else untoward.

I'll order up the 1st/2nd anyway, if 3rd/4th can be found at a reasonable cost then I think I'll go for it for those also. Otherwise it's the typical pragmatic approach on Alpines of what's available these days.

Darren,
You could try Kevin Jones at GTO Racing.
He is the guy with the rights to the UN1 ATB LSD which Quaife manufactures.
I am told that he has ALL parts for the UN1. http://www.gtoracing.co.uk/
I need a set of 1/2 synchro too, often it baulks, but would prefer a locol supplier, just in case of what ever.

My failed box was the Diff, and its getting sorted as we speak........its out of the car now and I will be splitting it open this weekend.

Hey Darren,

I might be interested in a set of 1/2 syncros depending on what supplier you go with. Has Chris or whoever your gearbox man is used the aftermarket 1/2 syncros before with success? I've got some 3/4 syncros, new genuine Renault if you are still looking.

Cheers,

John.

Hi John.

Sorry only just seen your message and had just placed the order about an hour before that.

I've gone the Mespieces route for 1st/2nd and Renault original (still in stock) for 3rd/4th.

I've bought two sets (Mr Faulks needed some). I can post pics when they arrive but they're recommended by Hellas amongst others so worth a shot as I believe they're now the only source.

Nickel plated with bronze inserts though I know one of the GT40 guys made up a limited batch with molybdenum that were meant to be an upgrade.

Anyway shipping is only 10 euros, so not too much and they're in stock.

Simon I'll let you know how they work out and then you can make a call on whether you want some.

Should hopefully breath new life into my 200K mile UN1 !

If they're the same as the 365 (A310 Box) then I believe Mecaparts have them.
