Seat removal

Postby red leo » Mon Oct 03, 2005 12:25 pm

Hi all I have just joined the illustrious ranks of Alpine ownership after a very long wait. Ineed to stop the seats from squeaking this means I have to remove them. Huh simple i thought what do you use to stop the bolt head turning as you are turning from underneath or is there a simpler way.
No doubt this will be the first of many,
oops
Another one already I have no power in the face air vents on the drivers console how do I access these to check they are connected properly
Any advice greatly appreciated

Wedge a large flat head screwdriver in between the inside edge of the runner, and the flat side of the bolt.

Its the only was as you can't get a socket or spanner in there.

Don't know if there's a proper knack to this but I did buy an appropriately sized box spanner with the intention of griding off a couple of the sides so that it would fit into the seat runner and grip the bolt head. Never did get around to it as other things came before taking the seats out.

Another method I did briefly consider was to find a couple of bits of metal bar/strip that would fit snugly into the gap between the bolt head and the seat runner, to stop the bolt head turning.

My new technique for most things on the GTA involves an angle grinder, metal cutting disc and new stainelss bolts. You do have to go easy to avoid melting any placcy bit though.

Welcome to the wonderful world of Alpeeeeeeen!

Hi Philip,

The seat bolts are a tricky one. The suggestion of wedging them against the seat runner with a metal bar or screwdriver works reasonably well unless they are really tight (which they usually are). Alternatively you should be able to clamp a mole grip on some of the more accessible ones from above.

The output from two of the facia vents is really poor. Two are fan assisted and two are ram air (without the ram effect!!) so the output may not be as bad as you think. I had the RH drivers vent out to access the speedo multiplug and did not notice anything amiss (Although I wasn't looking specifically for that). They are just push fit so a slim screwdriver or a tug in the right direction with your nails behind the top edge might suffice. Try not to break the cowling though as the top edge is quite thin.

Hope you are enjoying red leo otherwise!

I spent an hour trying to get my seat bolts out a month or two back having soaked them in WD40 and failed. I concluded the easiest answer was to Mig weld them to the frame first as they would not stay put or shear off as I had hoped. When I do get them out they will be replaced with plated bolts covered in Coppaslip. Poxy things !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Ventilation on this car is optional. I think it needs an Impreza style ram device (I know that is for the intercooler but I need it for the people cooler). I may even get round to designing one shortly. :(
Driving an A610 is just so sublime.

You can get at the seat frame mounting bolts ,rather than the floor .I had a look and its poss ,two on each runner on the inside so no nasty rusty .Putting it back will be interesting tho ,but I have got thin fingers
