Brake pads - recommendations anyone?

Postby Irish GTA » Thu May 04, 2017 8:20 am

After Macon trip the brake pad lamp lights up every time I use the brakes. Time for some new pads. I have no idea what are on my car at present; the car came to me with whatever was fitted. Are there any pads that stop better than standard, work from cold and don't wear the discs out too fast? What do people recommend for spirited road use?

Front pads are quite easy to get hold of.
I have used EBC Green Stuff in the past, seemed ok but others tell me they are poor.
I now use Ferrodo DS2500, which are not cheap and crete a lot of dust.
I know many others use standard pads in stadard cars with no issues.

Hi there,
Would these be pads for the Alpine GTA Turbo, A11 PLE?

I have used Mintex M Series M1144 pads in my current A610, in my last A610 and my previous GTA.

These are great pads in my opinion, work from cold, have great bite and really good stopping power.
I too was at Macon chasing after Lee and various other club members (as I was by myself and useless at reading directions and driving without crashing so had to keep up!) and the pads didn't fade once. I have standard discs and calipers.
OK you do get some dust from them, mainly on the fronts and the odd squeal...but for me I'd rather have that knowing that I will stop when I hit the pedal.
The pads have been in use for just over 8,000 miles so far and I've been very happy with them.

I bought the pads for my last three Alpines from:
Questmead Ltd - Competition Friction Specialists
The Lodge, Meadowcroft Mill
Bury Road, Bamford
Rochdale OL11 4AU
Telephone: 01706 363638
Web site: www.questmead.co.uk

They also deal in Pagid, AP Facing, Ferodo etc
Hope this helps.

Cheers, Barry.

Always found the Ferodo DS series very good.
