A610 Left-hand rear body earth?

Hi All,

There's a strange earth wire I'm trying to understand. It goes from the left-hand rear light cluster and disappears up into the recesses of the body and along the top of the inner wing. Where does it eventually go to? Where is it connected to?

Mine has completely fractured and failed. It's quite a hefty wire... In a black sheath...

Does anyone have a complete wiring diagram for the A610? The workshop manual seems to cover only small parts of it. Makes troubleshooting very difficult! I have a non-working speedo and rear fog light. For the latter it looks like the switch earths the relay. No earth to the relay, no dashboard light, no fog light!

On my GTA that's the heated rear window connection, haven't checked the 610 manual as yet but I'd be surprised if that's changed.
Speedo connector on 610 is on the rhs attached the the engine subframe towards the front of the engine bay but very low, you can see it when lying on your back under the car. Sender is in the gearbox side, so just trace the cable backwards to the connector. On my car the speedo is very intermittent too. It come back to life after a bump.
I have GTA and 610 wiring manuals, they do help a little but the RHD 610 wiring needs access to the rhd supplement too...a kind of errata section as the main manuals are wrong in a few important areas.
I guess you need the rear fog light diagram...I'll sort that for you later.

Here is the fog light wiring diagram form then1992 a610 electrical diagrams. I have the 1991 versions too. Hope it helps.
Simon I have the 1989 and 1990 versions of the GTA wiring, nothing for a car as early as yours. Maybe John C has those?

The legendary JohnC has been able to provide an early 86 wiring manual, it is just 30 pages and basic in places, but as usual a great help.

The earth for the rear LHS light cluster is "M 7" which is situated on the rear LHS suspension turret ..... at the top, and should be facing you when viewing from the rear.
A quick tip ...... the LHS rear light cluster is mirrored on the RHS rear light cluster, so you might get an idea of where your broken earth wire goes. ..... Again the earth for the RH cluster, "M 6" goes to the RHS suspension turret.
If you loose the fog light due to a broken earth on the left or right cluster, you will loose ALL the lights on that cluster .... it is a common earth for that particular unit ..... if only one lamp has failed, check lamp or holder if only one side.

Yes, I'm pretty sure the missing earth is for the heated rear windscreen - makes sense. The wiring for mine is all broken anyway and I have no plans to fix it at present, so that's one less thing to worry about for now!

I got the lights working, all except the rear fogs.

The wiring diagram is most definitely useful - thank you! Turns out I had mis-identified some of the relays mounted on the ECU plate - I didn't realise there were two relays for the rear fogs - 296 and 230 and I got one of them mixed up with the heated rear window! So a total mixup. I repurposed one of the relays for something else too...

Oopsidaisy. Oh well, now at least I have this diagram I can put things back as Renault intended. Makes a lot of sense!

Relays back as they should be, but the earth to the left-hand rear fog light is playing up. Don't understand why as it's fine for all the other lights! Think I need to clean things up and check them, so I removed the light unit.

Will have a play later on.

I've still got a strange electrical problem whereby the engine fans come on with the key in the Accessories position. Have to troubleshoot that one!
