Looks good Tony, where did you get the plating done? Is it expensive?

Not sure Lee I'll find out, its in Birmingham, they use it for all there plating. A few bits are going back to be redone as the finish wasn't perfect. Was £400 for everything thats come off, all nuts and bolts, plates brackets hinges everything. Thought it was a bit pricey to be honest but you don't have to clean the stuff up yourself like you do for most of the platers.

Thanks Tony,
400 is only 8 hours at most (non-main dealer) garages so I'd say it's worth it, plating does have a lot of steps.
We have a galvanising company in our town, I have been tempted a few times as they charge per kg applied. Nothing where it might distort as its a hot process.

We have a platers here in Plymouth. Great find and inexpensive as well. The most I've paid for a box of bits bolts washers etc is £50.

Rupert. Did you clean them up beforehand yourself? Or hand them over oily and rusty?

That's more in-keeping with the sort of cost I would have expected. Maybe around £100.

I have done it myself at home, Zinc with a yellow passivate.
Clearly learning as I go, but cleaning and prep is the key.

The first lot I did not clean, but the threads on the bolts didn't come out too great - but I recut the threads anyway.
The more crud you can remove, the better the finish. They do the gold/nickel colour and silver and on reflection I wish I had done silver as it is a more consistent colour.

Making progress again after a couple of set backs. Still waiting for my starter motor , and sump clashed with the anti roll bar so had to buy one with the bowl the other way round. One of the subframe cross braces also hit the bellhousing but this can be moved slightly when the subframe is strengthened and triangulated bracing welded in.

There is no doubt the Ls engine is amazing, strong light tuneable and cheep to maintain, this will be an amazing conversion the car will be untouchable if you can control the rear end in the corners, jealous but I know in this country my licence would be removed by pc plod within 6 weeks. Germany is the only place to own this car fo me. :(

Transaxle test fitted last week, threw up a couple of more issues. A small amount of the rear bumper needs to be trimmed as the bottom pulley sticks out a fair bit from the block and the standard water pump outlets are completely wrong so I'm going to buy an electric pump to make a much neater job off it and grab a few bhp in the process (like it needs them). Still pushing for a running car by the end of the month

Strengthened subframe back from powder coating. Has been seam welded, extra plates in key locations, large extra cross brace and strengthened box sections at the engine end. Uprated engine mounts too. Should be in very soon. Have everything to finish mechanically except suspension springs which are on order. Should be in and running very soon now.
