A610 drivers door glass

Hi the glass on drivers door does not now fit into the seals at the top when closed .and is actually outside the seals. see photo
recently a small white plastic part rose up with the glass and then fell back inside the door which I presume has something to do with it, also left a very small screw which I managed to catch.
Two things what was the white thingy and how do you remove the door card.?

I had this problem on my GTA recently. The white part is a nylon guide that holds the glass into the guide channel at the back edge of the door frame. The countersunk head M3? screw secures it. There is no need to remove the door card. Remove one small torx head screw holding the black plastic trim at the back of the door at the base of the window, then pull the rubber door seal away from the channel by about 6 to 8 cm. You will see a hole in the metal channel that the M3 countersunk head screw goes through near the bottom of the window. It passes through the white nylon block and is threaded in the metal attached to the window glass. You will have fun getting the window plus hole and white nylon bock to line up.
If the white block has fallen down into the door, you can probably get it to lift if you wind the window completely down then up.
I replaced the screw with a 10 mm screw instead of the original 8 mm length one. It was more secure as thread engagement was increased. I also used thread lock compound on the thread of the screw.
It has stayed in place since then.
After that the door seal rubber has to be pushed back in with a blunt implement. I used an old blunt screwdriver.
The whole job is a right fiddle and demands patience. Good luck...

Hi

thanks for that but unfortunately the white guide has not appeared and presumably is inside the door at the bottom somewhere. So the door trim has to come off so how does it come off ?? Can only see one screw. on the rear edge .

Irish GTA is spot on with the description on how to get the guide back in place.

The door card has a few screws on the bottom leading edge as well as the side. You also need to remove the door handle which you can get to the bolts by carefully removing the insert which will be either cloth (matching the seats) or leather. The whole door card should then pull towards you with a firm pull and hook over the top. This is from memory as I have only had a 610 door card off once.

If the guide does not appear inside the door (or you don't fancy stripping the door card) fear not:

The guide can't fall out the runner.It will have slid down and be sitting on top of the lower guide.No point taking the card off.as it gives no more access.You need to carefully flex the glass to see if you can see it and slide it back up ...but ....gravity is a botch.Worst case door off and lay flat,then remote power to the window motor via the harness multi-plug to get aligned ..

The black trim at base seems to be pop riveted in place but thanks to all for advice and e bay link
Will let you know how I get on but won't be soon

The white nylon guide will be sitting on top of a similar one at the bottom of the glass as Clee stated. If you wind the window up fully, the upper guide will come with it. Then you can gently pull the glass outwards and poke in a tool to shift the upper nylon guide up to the top And hold / jam it up there. Then wind the window down and concentrate on lining up the hole in the door frame with thread in the moving window section. Check you have access to screw the screw in. Now lower the white nylon guide in place and replace the screw.
I think the standard screw is too short. The end thread was damaged by the screw being pulled out. This reduced the effective thread length and it was difficult to re-engage, plus pulled out again. That's why I used a screw 2 mm longer. It projects through, but does not foul on anything.
Also make sure everything is really clean and keep it that way. Dirt in the channel & built up on the guide causes it to stick. This puts a bending moment on the screw, distorts the thread in the metal window and pulls the screw out. The screw is really too small. A bigger one - even M4 would have enough clamp force to overcome the pull out force on it. The design was probably given to a young inexperienced graduate engineer in ~1982, who didn't appreciate the increased loads caused by use.

All sorted thanks to all who replied ,as you said a hell of a job to get it lined up but persevered and found the thread stripped so different size screw and now working fine.
