GTA Centre console

Postby LesC » Sat Jul 08, 2017 9:00 am

Has anyone repainted/covered the cubbies in the centre console. It feels as though it has a rubberised coating? Can anyone recommend a solution?
Thanks

Thanks

I have experimented with removal of this on my Avantime...but never found a good solution (or really a solvent to get the goo off). Took ages and I only did a couple of small bits.

I think only the later GTAs >1990 got the rubberised treatment..(but I have some console lids from a later car in the spares box..but never used as they look rubbish)

I do know that 90s Ferraris had similar issues..so there is quite some advice..if you Google "Ferrari sticky rubber"..

This post has some advice to use brake fluid as a solvent...and then repaint with rattle cans..
There is even a company stickynomore.com but that is us based...but who knows maybe something similar in the UK..the Avantime owners forum might have some tips...

I would find an expert if you can ..as it is a pain.

Edit...
A company in Germany gets a mention here...

Mr Taylor might know if there is someone in the UK from his Ferrari chums...

Stephen used to recommend a treatment in a can, but I can't find anything on the current forum.
It must be available...anyone remember the name?

Found this on Halfords website to order which might do the job. Depends on how well I can prep the lids. Also seen a similar product on Ebay.

Might try on a piece of sheet metal to see the result.

I certainly don't want to damage the lids but if they are scratched anyway there must be a way of bringing them back to a good finish.

I like the way these came out. Been experimenting with dipping too for a few bits, think they would look very good in carbon, these are in one of my GTAs and are wrapped.

Love the wrapping great idea, I used rubberised enamel on mine in the past which I think looks good.

Plastidip was the one I used. Very close to OEM on the later cars.

Yes. Seen Plastidip and wondered about that one. Worth a shot.
