Head Gasket on GTA atmo HELP!!

Postby phildini » Tue Oct 18, 2005 10:39 pm

About to do a head gasket on a GTA atmo, and after finding out the cost for one gasket from Renault, I had to go to hospital for some valium.
I am trying to keep costs down. Has anyone done this before?
does anyone suggest replacing the head bolts too? ( dont really want to as they are £5 each!)
also Im I ok following the Haynes manual for the Renault 25 V6?

hi

how long do you plan to keep your car?
if you are in it for the long term then replace everything you take off with new components and check all the posts for work needing the engine out and think about replacing them items aswell

there is no cheap way with a gta

head gaskets can be replaced the the engine in situ. you will require the special tools that enable the timing chain and cover to stay in place, or if you like stripping nuts and bolts then remove exhaust and timing cover and chains!!!

handy enough job on the atmo if you know what you are about.

the head bolts are non strech type and are definatly ok to re-use at least once if the threads are in sound condition after a wee rub with the wire brush!

full head sets can be bought from engine reconditioners, check your yellow pages.

also you said that you priced one head gasket, hope you are not thinking about changing one???.......if so ignore all of the above and leave it to someone who is a mechanic

ship her over to belfast for competitive rates!!!

GTA engine repair manual is on the Technical Help section of this web site so no need to use the R25 manual if you don't want to.
