Hi all. New to the forum and new to Alpine ownership. Actually, won't be new to ownership til later this week...but still. Just purchased a 1990 GTA Turbo V6. The car is pretty nice and everything works thankfully, but it has mismatched tyres on it. They are new, but not the same, and that drives me nuts. The shop that worked on the car said they did that due to an inability to get the same brand/type in the sizes needed.
My question is, how big can i go on the stock wheels w/o rubbing or screwing something up? The car looks like its 'under-tyred' to me anyway; needs more rubber imnsho. Im not looking at changing wheels just yet as I dont want to spend the $ for a set of Gottis... So what sizes can i use on the OE wheels in yalls opinion[s]? Ive just strolled thru all 81 pages and dint see this question asked, and didnt see a search function, so kindly excuse me if this HAS been addressed before.

I DID see a thread about first cars tho - must read it as such is a particular interest of mine. :)

What size do you have on at the moment John? Should be 255 section at the rear, 195 at the front. Rears are very rare in that size, fronts are a lot more easy to come by and you can probably go a fraction wider at the front if you wish - it really comes down to what's available in a 15" size.

Yes should be 255 45 15 but now only available from Michelin at £350 each (mega bucks as you would say).

Toyo had a 235 50 15 tyre available up until recently.

225 50 15 is the other factory option and are more readily available.

Show us some pics of your GTA and as Darren says what size tyres do you currently have?

.that looks like a great car . Well done. I half considered bidding...and a driving holiday/work in the US before bringing it back and using it in Europe.

If so...
The ad states Yokohama fronts and Michelin 255 rears...(that's good)..
I really would not worry about different rubber front from rear. On one GTA I have Yokohama fronts first with 225 Nankang rears and now Nexen. (Even these budget tyres ..some call ditchfinders...have been fine)

On the other GTA, Toyos all round...

No qualms with either...even in spirited driving..
I think many folk run different tyres front to back.
I'd stick to the factory options as MVS stated...unless you change to bigger wheels..and that gives more options...but I think on US freeways the 15" wheels are probably better for ride/vibration.

(Different tyres between left and right I would not do)

I'd be more worried about age...and I'd spend the money saved making sure the geometry was just right.

Thanx for the replies guys.

Yes, its the blue car on BaT; there is some confusion about the tyres that are on it actually - the ad says 255 in one place, but the owner said 225.... Im scheduled to go get it Tuesday barring any problems, so we shall see...
But whichever it is, I want to make the hoops match [I understand its not necessarily necessary, but its a 'thing' with me] and I would like to fit as large as practical w/o causing problems. Visually, it just looks 'under-tyred' to my eye.

Going to 205 on the front opens up a whole world of options, and I imagine that the extra 10mm is no problem, but wanted to check. Figured y'all would be the folks who know. :) Immediate plans are to fix the drivers seat, make the tyres match and tidy a bit here and there. Past that, I dont know. Hopefully / allegedly it needs nothing, so am planning on merely maintaining and enjoying a bit if possible.
Will try to not be too much of a pest...but i know NOTHING about these cars!

Nearly every time he encountered a phillips head screw that wasnt perfect - and a few that were - my father said 'If theres ANY justice, Mr Phillips will spend an eternity in hell dealing with his invention when it wallows out!' .I said something to the same effect this weekend whilst trying to clean the wheels on the Alpine concerning their designer...

So, should I actually do the 23rd stupidest thing Ive ever done - I stopped counting at 92418 stupid things - and keep the Alpine, what size wheels would yall recommend? I know it was opined that i should consider 16s and 17s, but what size and any suggestion on brands available in those sizes and in the proper bolt pattern? Also, what tyre sizes work?
Looking at photos, I see a lot of AZEV and BBS, which I like both of, but they no longer appear to be readily available. All suggestions welcome. :)

Mine are Lenzo, cheap and cheerful BBS copies.
8 x 16 with 205 x 40 on the front, 9 x 16 with 245 x 45 on the back.
Could have gone a little bigger but these sizes are pretty easy to source.

They're ok, but you need to get smaller wheelnuts & studs, OE ones are too tall.so the centre caps won't fit, I got some aluminium flying A centres to stick on mine, looks ok but I'll be danged if I can remember where I got those.

IIRC mine are 35 offset in the front, 20 in the rear.

I have two Atmos, both on Turbo wheels.
Both wear Toyo Proxis T1R 255/50 on the rear, and 195/50 on the front.
Both cars have more HP than usual, one a heap more, and they drive fine.
The Toyo's are more modern technology and construction, and I suspect the compound is better than the original rubber from Michelin, Pirelli or Dunlop.
Both my cars had factory size 255s on the rear/195 front, one Dunlop and the other Michelin.
They were a bit over half worn but I didn't like the age of them.
The Toyos are very reasonably priced.

From what i can tell, those look really nice on the car - size seems about right. So...Ive been looking for some wheel options in those sizes and offset just out of curiosity, and theyre very thin on the ground. Looked at Gotti as they speak the same language as the car and I had a set years ago on an Alfa, but surely I misread the price... anyway, one other question - info is nearly non existent on these cars on the web. From reading thru some forum posts, I surmise that the bolt circle is 4 on 100mm, is this correct?

Demon Tweeks always seem to offer Toyo T1-R tyres at a reasonable price and sometimes even cheaper with an offer like 4 for 3 (25% off :angel )

225 is the max width you'll get in 15" unless you go Toyo r888 then you'll get 235 width but they wont last long.
Or Michelin do 255 OE spec but you'll need to remortgage
