GTA Turbo Wheels

Postby AndyClark » Wed Oct 19, 2005 2:41 pm

Has anyone had their original (turbine style) wheels refurbished? What does it involve and who can be recomended in the Midlands?

I investigated the price of new wheels from Renault Birmingham and was quoted £155+ VAT per front wheel. I doubt even Dieppe has stock though.

Dont know about the Midlands, but wheel refurbishment normally costs between £40 and £60 a wheel (I paid £40 2 years ago in Cumbria and £50 about 5 years ago in Hertfordshire....but they were quite badly shagged!!) . They will blast your wheels back to bare metal then spray them up.......I believe some places can also repair wheels with chunks missing but I dont actually know how.

My old wheels were refurbed by the previous owner years ago and you're looking around the 30/40 quid per wheel mark, though some places charge 70+ per wheel, so prices do vary a lot.

They can remove scuffs, chips and corrosion so it's a job worth doing. Also check the inner edge of the rim which you can't normally see as that side can tend to get buckled when kerbed.

Paul Sage showed me a new finish he had done last time I was up at ARR and they looked very good, quite a high polish with a fine groove to the surface.

The factory in Dieppe had a load of spare wheels they wanted rid of a few years back (esp. fronts) so it's worth checking the prices with someone in the know i.e. Stephen.

I have two sets of Turbine wheels for my Turbo. I'll sell 1 set for a sensible offer, but I won't split a set. (Might help pay for me new 17s!)

I can also offer the services of a high quality wheel refurb centre, but it's in Belfast. Having said that, he done a set of wheels for me for £160, and that included fixing a bend in the inside edge and a crack on one wheel, and they came back better than new!
