Trip computer calibration for larger injectors

Postby darrenbiggs » Tue Dec 19, 2017 8:49 pm

So just spent a Sunday at EFI Parts with Chris and MartinF. Big, big thanks again to Martin for his efforts and patience in setting up the car and re-programming the ECU and to Chris also for his input. The best compliment I can give is that on the long trip back from Runcorn it really did feel like a factory Renault map.

Spec wise, it's now running A610 injectors, upped boost and been tuned to suit....

However, here's a question for the clever people who know such things. Is there a way to calibrate the trip computer for the larger injectors? I'm certainly not hitting 60mpg so clearly it's using the old values, and since the remaining fuel is calculated on the basis of fuel used it's a bit of a guess at the moment as to what's left in the tank. Obviously the atmo uses a different system (fuel flow meter) and the GTA Turbo and 610 use a similar trip computer. Does anyone (John C) know how that flow info is fed to the computer or whether it could be adapted to better understand the fuel use?

I know the normal system isn't perfect, but it'd be good to get back to something useable just for long trips.
Thanks all.

Fuel level is a float in a tube giving a variable resistance.Consumption is inj duty cycle based on inj cc.Somewhere there must be a calc being made from those two inputs.
Would assume fuel level is still as true as it ever was

Darren, I just run my dash computer in "diag" mode.
It shows actual fuel level all of the time.

ECU gives an output, level gives an output, they both go to 'car-bourne computer for driving aid'
Assuming that's somewhere in/on the binnicle boards

Darren, just keep driving till the low level warning light comes on. I would hope this is a signal from the tank..... but probably not however you can find out for us.

More importantly..... is your car a little more spirited now?

Yes a fair bit more power and a lot more torque, although not really had a chance to get to grips with it late on Sunday night. However it handled the full 500 mile round trip very happily.

Diagnostic mode seems sensible. I just have to look up how to do that again. Does it stay on that mode or do you have to switch over each time you restart?

Be nice to come up with a tweak though to account for the size difference.

it is detailed in the workshop manual how to get into diag mode.
Each time you turn ign on, you are presented with all 8888 (tests the display digits) then press the dash button once to flip into fuel level mode.
