During my first year...
1st practice run was to see where the black stuff goes
2nd practice run I booted it
both timed runs would include mistakes, missed gears from trying to hard and a few offs.
Fastest run of the day was normally 2nd practice.

Seat time is key, and keep calm,

2nd year, I set my self the target to brake later on just 1 corner so that times improved just a little each time.
This resulted in constant improvement and thankfully no offs and no more red mist.

I think time in seat is key.....I'm told if anything I'm too aggressive with braking, unsettles the car and I bog down in the corner. I tried a few 'styles' but in reality there's little you can do to improve on an unknown layout with just 5 mins total running time.


I'm not sure it's for me ...I think I'd rather do more trackdays, get licence and work towards circuit racing as planned.
End of the day there's not enough driving in it for me. With all the prep and fannying about with trailers etc I'd rather get a full days driving than 5 mins competing.

Yes, corner exit speed is key.
So long as you enjoy what you do and have some fun, thats key too.
I was at Thruxton for the weekend, with the MSA/GoMotorsport promoting grass roots motorsport, I now understand that it is only Formula-1 where the pit lane girls have been withdrawn. It was a good weekend, hot though.

Slicks ...I'm in two minds but all the competition are running them as it's mod prod .....Long term it's street legal 1A etc for the circuit racing but looksee at these fellas from Sunday :thinking

Next day out Blyton Park for another trackday/test session.

Full romper suit/gloves and hans and see how long I can survive going round and round...My eyes are bent, my legs are dim .. :thinking

Quite a few test days under the belt now and really getting to know the car. It continues to go well with no major breakages.
Camber plates on front work well and stay put. I've hammered the car for 20 odd laps at a time on full chat and nothing is moving.

Trying to get the car to last more than 30 mins is the next issue as I lose clutch after about then with fluid boiling in the slave. Come in and cool down and it's right back so it's an insulation exercise....Wrap everything I can and then get the new rear light pods in to get some heat out .I'm getting a mould cast from these proto units if anyone is interested in a bum lift ;-)

Dialled in a lot more rear brake bias and now the car stops without quicker in a far more controlled manner. I was running nowhere near enough rear and just killing the front pads . I've installed brake ducts to the fronts also .

Some pics from last time out at Blyton.
That's it for a while as work and finances dictate and I want to pull the lump to fit LSD/ratio change box + new turbo and a re-map is required for all that. Looks like that will be end of play for this year and I'll spend the time addressing the issues I have with heat and a few other mods to geo.
Ratty has performed far better than expected and I've learnt a lot about how the car and I behave when really pushed..... I think I've gotten better in the seat and hope to get my full licence for next year.
RATS' Racing should be out and about in a full-on circuit race next year, at least one. We've got a Northern team together for the craic over a weekend event.....anything else but more than dead last would be great also :up

Second to last outing of the year at Shelsley Walsh a few weeks ago. After this I took Ratty back to Blyton for another shekedown but it didn't go well....Flying but then suddenly just died and game over .I'm sure it's just an electrical gremlin but it's now all out for Winter mods.

MF tells me the red dusting is usual when running at max efficiency. Tuned for maximum burn :super We can't get any more out of this combo and I have a pile of bits ready to swap out. Uprated gearbox with LSD and gearing, new clutch setup, latest MoFo T3 for this current lump and a host of other small changes I need to make.
Learnt a lot about the car and my abilities this year ..both need improvement but it has performed very well. I'm really quite suprised just how well it went.
I have done 8 full track days and a couple of sprints. Pushed the car to max regularly with 30min + sessions and for the most part she's stayed together.
I'm hoping to get one full circuit race in next year ...it's a totally different game to hillclimbing...car and driver need so much more prep.
