The rev counter on my car has a sticking needle. It does function, but rests back to around 1600 rpm at idle or engine off, then moves when the engine revs higher.
I took the whole instrument set out recently and did a bit of blowing and sucking on it with a vacuum cleaner. All freed off and return to normal function again with stronger return force on the needle, but only for a bit.
So, some years dust has been removed to show a benefit, but it cannot have filled with dust again in 2 weeks.
Is there a method of adusting the bearings of the rev counter to slacken them off fractionally? Does anyone have experience of how to solve this irritating fault? I would apreciate sme advice before I delve in again.
