To run through the recent responses:

Each Alpine centre paid for their invited guests to attend La Piste Bleue at Goodwood and the availability was VERY limited. As you can imagine, each Alpine centre has a large amount of enquiries on the books at any one time, so as the driving on the day was at a minimum between the morning and afternoon sessions, each dealer made the decision to treat it as a test-drive exercise for people we'd struggled tying down to an appointment.

In answer to the VIP's:

The first was a full time professional British Touring Car driver who we asked to come along to try the car out for a rare insight from an expert racing driver, to potentially offer specific services on future Alpine Retail Group events and as a brand ambassador for the group.

The second: A Major in the British Army responsible for all soldiers suffering with disability both mental and physical and who is trying to remove obstacles for these people. Raising awareness of her work in this way also supports the good work she does and gives hope to many others.

With regards to the contact methods used:

People were not contacted directly is down to GDPR laws, meaning Alpine would be breaking the law by doing so, whether by phone, email, letter or smoke signals. Therefore (rightly or wrongly) blanket social media notifications were posted. If you still disagree with this form of marketing. I suggest updating your contact preferences through the Alpine app.

Although we're both on holiday this week (separately, I might add) I have already spoken to the UK territory manager about the contact preferences for future events.

In no way was this event intended to shun the advocates of the Alpine brand and we're all genuinely disappointed it may have come across in that way to some people. As another post has mentioned on here, the event was structured by France and was largely out of the dealer network's hands, due to the limited availability of spaces.

To keep you aware of our commitment to the owner community:

I attended a meeting with other Alpine Retail Group representatives, with the Alpine territory manager, before the Goodwood event and we all agreed we should hold some more events in the future involving the owner's clubs who had shown brand loyalty for a long time. These events will be planned and put forward to you ALL in the near future.

I hope this covers everything you need to know but if anyone has specifically been offended or disappointed by anything not covered in this post, please feel free to PM me and I'll do my best to cover your questions.

Thanks,

Ian

Thanks for that Ian. Communication hasn't been Alpine's forte to date, so your insight into what is going on behind the scenes is much appreciated.

Thanks Ian we know it wasn’t down to you. I think many of the Classic Alpine Owners would have been happy just to turn up and park in the pit garages, have a burger and a coffee and watch the action with the new cars on the track.

We’ve done something similar at Goodwood previously and had 35-40 cars on track and another 150 or so in the paddock. The guys paying to use the track effectively susbsidise the other attendees for whom we charged a nominal entry fee.

Hi Ian

great insight. I appreciated that and I can't complain about the selection of VIPs for the event! It seemed like they were genuinely worthy guests. It is quite easy to invite celebrities or bloggers but I have to applaud the approach taken here. My main disappointment was not being able to attend to meet other owners and to see some of the cup cars in action. It's a shame the official event was a take it or leave it event as you would garner a lot more attention and enthusiasm by having guys who just want to be there to see other Alpine cars and their owners. Amongst them there will always be those who pay the full fee for the full experience but it could be much bigger and more effective marketing by being (slightly) less exclusive.

who was the "touring car" vip?
never thought I would want a list but now find myself needing one just to remind me: Clio V6 230, 5 gt turbo, 5 Gordini turbo, Megane RS 300 Trophy.

Sorry folks, time to be grumpy again! Having reserved my slot 10 months ago, I am beginning to lose patience. In January I was told to expect my car in 12 months. In June, 5 months later, I was told to expect my car in 12 months. In September it was "maybe sometime next Summer". The app, which we are all told will keep us informed of status of our order, actually tells us nothing.

In June, a press release said 1200 cars had been delivered and production was being stepped up to 20 per day. In September my dealer told me that since the August holidays, production was running at 25 per day (500 per month). If any of this were even close to being true, then the 1955 PE deliveries would now be complete, and series production started. In reality however, the online configuration still doesn't have all the options available, suggesting that we are still nowhere near production.

So we have real delivery dates continuing to slip, and a company which seems unwilling to tell those of us who have paid our deposit the truth.

If any recent owners would be willing to share their reservation number, then those of us waiting would at least be able to assess the reality of the situation (ie delivery status and rate). This would be appreciated, but unnecessary if the company were more customer focused.

I still think this is a great car. But the company is $hit!

@griff500 - What is it that you’ve reserved a slot for?

I thought all of our PE cars destined for the UK had to be registered by end of Aug 2018 and that was all done.

CB
Renault 5 Turbo2 (previously) - met. brown
Renaultsport Clio V5 255 (previously) - met. red
Alpine A110 Première Édition - met. blue

I think Griff has reserved a pure or legende.
Griff, no real consolation but it was the same for those of us who reserved a PE.
The app is useless as we found out - it didn’t track the order at all.

The PE were scheduled to be delivered in March but then, presumably following the top gear fire, everything was put back. No official info though from alpine.

We then heard orders needed to be confirmed and a few of us got cheesed off as we hadn’t had test drives or been told what was happening. Anyway further delays and then a mad rush to get the cars registered before September.
Cars arrived, a few teething troubles but the cars are great and worth the wait. Stick with it but I agree the information flow is no good.
I’m not sure any deliveries other than PE have been made yet? Perhaps speak to your dealer to get hold of a PE demo as they will be selling them soon I presume ?

This may give you some idea of what is happening and no doubt RHD production may be slightly different but it does give you some idea of timescales and it looks like most current orders are scheduled within 12 months and yes it is worth the wait.

When I went to see the car in W. London in early summer they had one of the production managers over from Dieppe. When asked about RHD cars he said that they were just about to switch the factory over to RHD to manufacture the RHD PE's. They'd then switch it back to LHD to begin the Pure/Legend production. The next batch of RHD production was apparently set for 'early 2019' (presumably for Pure/Legende too).
