Oil Pressure Guage

Hi.

How accurate is the oil pressure gauge on the GTA Turbos? And what is the expected range that its meant to sit in on idle and revs?

Mine is currently reading between 1 and 4 when cold and just off the orange on idle when warm and up to a max of 4 at revs?

No strange noises from engine and oil pressure light never comes on. I think the gauge is not correct or maybe the too thin oil?

Engine was also removed recently to replace coolant pipes etc so wonder if something is not back right sensor wise ?

Gauge is not very accurate..and the markings don't mean much other than you have no or some pressure....Main thing is to note any change from normal.

At 4k ,80c, the manual says min 4.4 bar for z6w,z7u,z7v and z7x

z7w 4 bar at 5500rpm


There are 3 oil pump types

What did it used to read Brad. Mine's always read identical (ish) to your pics before and after rebuild. You'll probably see higher numbers at cold temps in winter when the car's just started, but other than that all looks fine to me.

Funnily enough I was talking to one of the Mobil oil specialists at work yesterday and he was saying how the modern oils are getting thinner and thinner - essentially all in the name of economy.
I'm just here for the gasoline.

Thanks Guys for the replies

Had a deeper look today and found some interesting things.

I've now noticed that the oil pressure indicator light does not come on when ignition is switched on. This is not related to the gauge pressure as I think this has not come on for some while now which ill explain below


Once i noticed the oil pressure light was not on I tried earthing out the connection to the loom onto the chassis. Then the light came on, happy days. I then noticed that the "oil level" indicator started to work and flew straight to the right hand side. Now this has not worked in years and I assume that the oil pressure light has also not worked since that stopped working many years ago. Two things could be fixed in one , bonus! So I then assumed it was the connection between the connector in the loom to the pressure sender and I then temporary re-wired that. No light and no oil level indicator? So I assume that the sensor for the oil level and oil pressure has gone? It is the connection in the top left of the picture. This seems to be a separate piece from the main unit that screws in is that correct ? Can this be replaced on its own and does anyone have a spare? I assume to replace it will be a drain down of the oil etc ?

My gauge shows almost zero when the engine is warm, same as your picture, but checking it with a proper gauge, oil pressure is good.

At least on my car, I don't think any single one of the instruments are anywhere close to reality, so i treat them as advisory only

Got to be worth a shot at that price. If the thread is correct it will probably work.

Thread looks too wide and not long enough (picture from another thread on here). Emailed Mecca parts for price on just oil light switch. I am also starting to think that the oil level sensor does not work unless the low oil pressure light is on as the oil level is a separate sensor. Hence why my oil level gauge started working which I earthed out the low oil pressure connection and got the light to work

That Ebay light switch is nothing like. All you need is a std M10x1 light pressure switch.

Thanks everyone for their advise. oil pressure gauge is now working properly again after swapping the oil pressure sender . I swapped my later 2 switch setup for the earlier switch for both pressure and oil light ( I know it measures 0-6 bar whereas my later gauge is setup for 0-8 bar) as my low oil pressure oil light sender was gone as well (and they don't seem to make either the newer switches anymore). After being quoted 79.50 euros plus shipping for the switch from Simon Autos I had a shop around and found this on ebay for £31 delivered which was the right part number and took a punt - 77 00 754 383

However today he has put his price up to £43 for some reason but still cheaper than anywhere else.

It turned up today and I've fitted it and its worked a treat ( a bit of re-wiring involving putting on some spade connectors but nothing too much). Gauge now reads properly (all be it in 0-6 bar) and also my low oil pressure light now works as well. And as an added bonus my oil level gauge now works as well!!!! This seems to not work if there is no low oil level light when the ignition is switch on (assume it will only read oil level when engine is not running and this is triggered by the light) . So my oil level gauge which has not worked in years must have stopped when the low oil pressure switch gave up unnoticed by me!

- So if your oil pressure gauge is reading low change the sender.
- If your oil level indicator is not working check your low oil pressure light is on when the ignitions on as they are related.

So what pressure do you now see at idle and 4k revs when hot?

JonC had a thread about this and I think the conclusion was that the 0-6 bar sensor means that its over-reading against the gauge. I.e. full voltage output at 6 bar will be 8 bar on the gauge. So 4 bar actual pressure would show as around 6 on the gauge.

Still even so its better than it not working and the low pressure light is important to have.
I'm just here for the gasoline.
