Started doing a few bits and pieces before putting this back together ready to move it.

I bought some new badges in the near perfect size last time I went to classic Le Mans.

Having previously lost a centre cap due to loose fit I recommend that anyone with Image wheels checks for tightness of fit and makes the following modification.

I recently bought a set of Image wheels but I can't quite make out your modification. Presumably it's something to do with the black piece but this looks as if it's attached to where the badge sits. Maybe I'm not looking at it properly.

I also wanted to replace the Image badge with something more appropriate to the car, not that there's anything wrong with the Image name or wheels. I found the badges on eBay and they came from Portugal. They have several designs and make them in a large range of diameters. Here's a link to the ebay shop page after searching on 'Alpine'. Note that some of the items are caps and badges and some badges only which is what I bought, as in the photo.

Nice wheels John. Are those 13”? I’d really like some in 15” but Harry said it wouldn’t be straightforward.

The Image Centre caps are pressed aluminium with 3 or 6 dimples to hold them in place. I found the ones with 3 dimples were often very loose to the black band is insulating tape to make them a bit snugger. It also stops the cap scratching the powder coating and breaking the surface.

My wheels have kept well but disappointed to notice some corrosion starting around one of the wheel lugs where there has never been any damage so must have been poor preparation when new so will likely have to take it back to image for a refurb and hope the colour matches.

I see what you've done now. The caps on my wheels have very little protrusion away from the wheel so that's what threw me.

My wheels are 13" type RA for the A110 with a 5 1/2" width. I wanted something that looked similar to the 5 1/2" Gotti bi-metal 6 spoke wheels that were on the car previously which were in need of a refurb. In addition, as part of the restoration I've been doing, I had the paint shop bond in new Simon Auto rear wings to correct back to standard the lifting of the arches done by a previous owner more than 30 years ago. The Gotti bi-metal wheels are slightly wider than the Image wheels which would have caused slight tyre rub against the inside of the arches just before contact of the drive shaft tubes with the top bump stops. So I went for new wheels.

My impression was that Image only do the RA in 13" size. If you look at the RA section in the photo gallery on their website there's a burgundy R8 (as attached) with front wheels that look as if they have larger diameter rims than mine. I did ask Harry, in an email at the time, whether these were larger than 13" but he didn't really answer the question as it was lost amongst other questions I had. Looking at the photo again, the depth of the outer rim of the R8 front wheel looks shallower than the rear wheel outer rim which looks like my wheels. Maybe both wheels on the R8 are, actually 13".

Pulled out all the carpets and trim to see how the rust is getting on (this car has never been welded).

Drivers side doesn’t look too bad. You can see a little bubbling near the handbrake.

Think I’ll be spraying some ACF50 around and putting it all back together for now.
